A Yamaha–and fast!
This morning we had a very nice Devotional Meeting followed with waffles, fruit, eggs, yogurt and so on. The focus of the prayers, music and readings was on joy and rejoicing, as this is the last day of the Baha’i celebration of ‘Ayyam-i-Ha. … The joke often heard is: “A Yamaha–and fast!”
Today is the last day of Ayyam-i-Ha and tomorrow starts the Fast. The Baha’i Fast is comprised of 19 days where you abstain from food or water between sunrise and sunset. It’s a very special time and I love doing it. However, this year I won’t be fasting because I’m feeding my little boy. I’m sure next year I’ll be able to Fast since he’ll be eating more table food and I won’t be his only source of nutrition.
Well this was the first year for our family to really try to figure out what we wanted to do for Ayyam-i-Ha, what sort of traditions did we want to pass down to our kids etc…
Oh and before I go to far, if you are wondering what Ayyam-i-Ha is , in the Baha’i Faith it is a time of giving and generosity, whether by giving gifts or showing acts of kindness and service to others.
First Aria and I sat down and made some decorations by way of wonderfully BRIGHT construction paper.

In my mind, Ayyam-i-Ha is almost synonymis with painting cookies. It was one of the activities we did each year when I was growing up, and something I looked forward to the most.
So, as one of our Ayyam-i-Ha activities this year, we brought in small presents to Isabela’s kindergarten classmates (playdough and a deck of cards) and I organized an edible art activity: PAINTING COOKIES. Yum.

These days of the Baha’i festival of Ayyam-i-Ha are a time of gift-giving and charitable activities. In that spirit I invite friends and readers to visit one of my all-time favorite sites, FreeRice, where you play a word game online and feed a hungry person in real life.

There is going to be an awesome party at Devvi’s this weekend. I am excited because Mike is going to go with me. We have a party to go to first. It is for Ayyam-i-ha. I feel like I should get him something for Ayyam-i-ha. Anyway, after Ayyam-i-ha is over, mike will go on a fast for nineteen days, i think. Anyway, to be supportive of him and his religion, I will go on the fast with him. Aka I will not eat or drink during light hours.

Today I thought I’d post several songs by fairly famous musicians who are Baha’is. It’s mostly jazz artists for today, but I put Dan Seals at the top of the list…

I found Robin’s explanation of this quotation very interesting (from his manuscript):
The letter Há, in the term Ayyám-i-Há, can have a number of different meanings. … [It] stands for the terms ‘Huva’ (He), which signifies God, and ‘Huvíyyah’ (essence) denoting the unknowable Divine Essence. When Bahá’u’lláh states in the above quotation that these days “shall be the manifestations of the letter Há, and thus they have not been bounded by the limits of the year and its months”, this might, therefore, indicate that, while all the other days and months of the year are dedicated to divine attributes, the Days of Há signify the unknowable Essence of Divinity (Huvíyyah). In the same way in which this Divine Essence is outside the range and limits of human understanding, these days are, then, not part of the Kull-i-Shay’ (All Things) of the year and thus beyond the limits of time and names.

the days of Ayyam-i-Ha that are filled with celebration, charity, gift-giving and festivities. To my Baha’i friends, I wish you all a Happy Ayyam-i-Ha! …
Calm and serene, these holidays sure have a different feel than the hustle and bustle of Christmas and I’m not complaining.

Wednesday a national Jamaican holiday and as luck would have it the first day of Baha’i celebration days of Ayyam-i-Ha found me at the beach again!! A group of Baha’i's from Kingston celebrated with a picnic at the beach day. What fun we had, the young and the young at heart! The kids loved the waves and the temperature was just right at around 84 degrees, ( eat your hearts out friends in the frozen north!)
