On Ending Jihad: God’s One-Two Punch

The acts committed by the terrorists in Mumbai would be unjustifiable during any dispensation, although the terrorists no doubt attempted to justify their actions on the basis of jihad.  As to the waging of holy war, with the revelations of the Bab and Baha’u'llah, Mohammad’s law of jihad was abrogated a century and a half ago. -gw

…although the Bab did not formally and explicitly abrogate holy war, He effectively eliminated it within His Dispensation. It would remain for Baha”u’llah to abolish it formally, and indeed the explicit abrogation of the law of the sword (with the exception of punishment for crime) was Baha’u'llah’s first act in announcing His mission. “on the first day of His arrival in the garden designated the Ridvan,” Baha’u'llah recounts, “the Tongue of Glory uttered three blessed verses,” the first of which was “that in this Revelation the use of the sword is prohibited.”
