He claimed to be no less than the Messenger of God Who fulfilled the promises made in earlier religions—the Bearer of a Divine Revelation that will unite the peoples of the world. Such a claim evoked violent hostility from the Muslim clergy. Bahá’u'lláh was stripped of His wealth, imprisoned, tortured, and banished several times. Undeterred, He continued to fearlessly proclaim His message to all strata of society—from common folk to the rulers of the world. Today, His teachings have been adopted by people in practically every place on earth.
