On the Year of Faith Project: A Mambo Braziliano Conclusion to the Baha’i Fast

“…mambo music (there was a live band, I danced).” Michael

The three participants in the Year of Faith project, featured here previously, have all finished their fast, attended the Naw Ruz celebration with the Baha’is of West Vancouver, Canada, with several written posts about the experience submitted as evidence. Michael danced the mambo. -gw

She said something that hit home, something I whole heartedly believed: “Man is a talisman.”

Hopefully we will be able to get involved with a study circle to learn more about the faith from fellow adherents.

On Life as a Weaving: The warp as destiny and the threads choice

I never met-a-phor I didn’t like! -gw

Sherna, a Baha’i member, explained that in her religion they view life as a weaving, where the warp is destiny and the threads, colors and textures we select to weave the woof are choice. Such a wonderful metaphor! How would our human brains ever be able to understand complex matters without metaphor?

On Delivering Roses to Our Iranian Friends: After Evensong

This post opening constitutes in itself a lovely vignette. -gw

Today was the next to last of our Evensong/Supper/Bible Study sessions for Lent. After Evensong (during which I discovered that the front Epistle-side pew is missing one of its two kneelers) we had a pleasant supper of the Millers’ meatless chili (*very* delicious if un-Texan!), cornbread and Debra’s excellent potato salad. Amusingly, Kathy prefers Debra’s and Debra prefers Kathy’s — they’re both good, just very different.

Kathy reminded us that today is Norooz, Persian New Year. I know she’d been delivering roses to our Iranian friends: Muslim, Christian and Baha’i alike.

On Naw-Ruz Traditions: Zip-a-dee-doo-dah

This is the “traditional” Naw-Ruz song sung every year in our community. -gw

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

Mister Bluebird’s on my shoulder
It’s the truth, it’s actual
Ev’rything is satisfactual
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, feeling this way

On 今天是Baha’i的New Year, 他們稱作Naw Ruz: Undeniably, this is good

Here is a description of the Chinese New Year’s commemoration. Here is a description of Naw-Ruz, the Baha’i New Year’s. -gw

Naw Ruz. 之前有提過我參加一個小型讀書會,是有關Baha’i。I have mentioned before participating in a small study, the Baha ‘i. 不可否認,這是很好的一個Religion。Undeniably, this is a good one Religion. 它是要把所有的愛散撥在這世上,而且把所有人連結在一起。It is necessary to allocate all the love in this world casual, but everyone together. (很難Translate…..)(Translate difficult …..) 總之大概就是這樣。This is probably short. 但是因為某些原因,我實在不適合這個宗教,我還是暫時prefer無神論。But for some reason, I really do not fit the religious, I still prefer atheism temporarily. 今天是Baha’i的New Year。Today is the Baha ‘i the New Year. 他們稱作Naw Ruz。They called Naw Ruz.

On Stories Before Naw-Ruz: My grandmother would be inside laughing

Two moving vignettes from Chandra, one recent, one not so. -gw

The fast is on its third day before Naw Ruz enters our homes with her eyes brimming with Spring. My mother and I wake up every morning quarter to seven. I make us tea to share, she eats eggs on toast, I eat toast with fig jam and tahini. We sit across from each other at the small table by the window and I pull stories from between her lips of my childhood. My favorite ones are from age three. I used to dance and sing on the balcony, and afterwards bow and thank an imaginary crowd as she would walk to her dance class across the street, meanwhile my grandmother would be inside laughing.

“teepee,”uploaded on September 25, 2006
by hialoakapua on flickr

My uncle Earl has passed away due to complications with diabetes on wednesday at 12:30 p.m. He had long braids that went to his waist with leather tied at the ends, a cowboy hat and boots, bone necklace button up cowboy shirt, a real pow wow man. At the stampede the Europeans would take pictures of him and he’d laugh about it later, ‘All these white people must think I live in a teepee all year round!” He was always joking, even when I first met him when I was three years old he played tricks on me, … but I always liked him. He was very charismatic.

He was also prominent member of both the Baha’i and Aboriginal community. This is going to be my first Baha’i funeral.

I feel wierd because I am going to Haifa Israel on pilgrimage in his place. I just feel wierd altogether. It hasn’t sunken in at all. I made the choice to not be sad rather remember that he is with our ancestors now and is with us in the metaphysical sense. Everytime someone I know dies I feel like the phsyical barrier that was between us before has been broken and they can see into my soul. I’ve called on them all before, I feel them with me during difficult times. I can almost hear them. It’s strange to have more of a relationship with someone after they’ve passed away more than when they were alive. It feels like cool hands on guilts feverish forhead or a moth eaten blanket.

On a Well-Informed Blogger: A Summer Breeze Remix

“Summer Breeze…Makes me Feel Fine,”Uploaded on September 5, 2006 by Twoponys on flickr
Some bloggers seem well-informed of Baha’i beliefs. -gw
.
.
Coming again. All major religions predict the return of their particular prophets. This has, however, never happened - unless you use the Baha’i view that each new prophet is actually the ‘return’ of the previous ones. The Jews were looking for Someone when Christ appeared. The Christians are still looking and Muhammad taught over six centuries ago. The Moslems are looking for Someone and the Báb and Bahá’u'lláh appeared 164 years ago.
.
.
It’s in the Bible and the Baha’i Faith and probably many other places - deeds not words (or appearances). Don’t tell me, show me what you can do.
