Yesterday, I was invited to Ho’s home for a religion course. Actually it was not called a course as he said, whereas it was kind of brainstorm or communication…. But anyway I enjoyed it quite much. Why I accepted his invitation to this kind of reactionary acitivity is because:
1. I like Ho and his wife Beth. Ho is from Korea and Beth is from the USA. Both of them are kind. We met in English corner. The first impression of Ho left on me was he was a little bit arrogant. But now I found it was just Asian guy’s shyness. Beth is a teacher in a vocational school. She is typically an educator, quite patient.
2. Actually I have a rough idea about what they are going to say and I definitely know it is almost a forbidden topic in China especially for me, a communist. But I am quite interested in religion things ever since I studied in University on the course of Religion and Culture. As I found religion is a carrier of history, literature and more importantly, the thinking passed from generation to generation. We are always in awe of what we don’t know. On the earth, is there anything more unknown than spiritual world? And for thousands of years, especially for Chinese, I guess, who limits themselves in the illusion of egomania and brainwashing propaganda of communism, religion is masked as evil or fatuous and a lot of misunderstanding arises.
3. June is quite cute. June is Ho and Beth’s son, who is 24 years old. I have been talking with him for a couple of times. He attracted me with his knowledgeable and leading and lofty ideas. He always shamed me by his understanding to Confucius and Laozi; he always amazed me by his far more thinking on the whole universe and he always enlighten me with his fresh ideas whatever on philosophy or sociology. He is fairly cute, unlike those superficial boys or girls. (Women do things by an always simple motivation or excuse, MEN. That’s the simply reason why women watch manly World Cup)
4. Last but not the least, it is a good opportunity to practice my English, isn’t it?
Ok those combined reasons drove me to attend this activity and I did enjoy it pretty much For me their religion is brand new with a lot of things different from Christianity or Buddhism. We talked about heaven and hell, the history of Baha’i and some of its doctrines One thing especially special is that this religion doesn’t have ranks! Everyone is equal with each other, no popes, no 方丈. Quite interesting and lifting!
I guess I will persist on every Tuesday
